WHO WE ARE

The sports and media platform of Blenheim Chalcot, the UK’s leading digital venture builder.

OUR CAPABILITIES

A venture builder brings together its resources, infrastructure, network and experience to help entrepreneurs take their ideas from conception to scale, maturity and exit. This shared ecosystem works to improve speed and likelihood of success. It differs from the classic venture capital model, where investors simply distribute capital among ideas and teams, hoping one in five or ten might make it big. Venture builders bring a lot more than just capital. Within its role as a venture builder, Emerging Media Ventures provides a series of specific services to help support and grow businesses.

At Emerging Media Ventures we typically expect to take the majority stake of any company we build. This model has allowed us to stay nimble and create more valuable businesses that solve real customer needs, offering a higher probability of success for all involved.

OUR STORY

In 2005, Emerging Media Ventures was formed by Blenheim Chalcot to capitalise on the growth in cricket. In 2008, Emerging Media Ventures successfully bid to acquire the Rajasthan Royals franchise. The Royals went on to win the inaugural Indian Premier League in 2008.

Since its establishment in 1998, Blenheim Chalcot has founded 42 businesses. The current portfolio of 19 companies has combined annual revenues of £500 million and in excess of £2 billion of equity value. Blenheim Chalcot companies employ over 4,000 people and the central BC Team is 150 members, operating across a network of global offices located in London, Mumbai, Tampa, and Cape Town.

In 2007, Emerging Media Ventures launched Cricket Star, an interactive cricket talent hunt show, aired on Zee TV. Cricket Star attempted to find the world’s best young cricketer and democratise the game. Emerging Media Ventures is set to re-launch Cricket Star in 2023.

Over its history, Emerging Media Ventures has grown the Rajasthan Royals from inception, through to one of cricket’s most recognisable brands, within the most watched sports league in the world.

The Rajasthan Royals Academies and Royals School of Business were formed to operate in conjunction with the franchise.

In 2021, the Barbados Royals CPL franchise was added to Emerging Media Ventures’ stable of global cricket assets, primarily due to the strong synergies that it demonstrated with the Rajasthan Royals. The following year, EMV acquired the rights to establish the Paarl Royals as a founding franchise of the inaugural SA20 competition in South Africa, further progressing its mission to build a truly global sports platform.

In 2022, Emerging Media Ventures launched Emerging Rights Management - a digital-first sports rights management company. Emerging Rights Management has a specific focus on emerging technologies, including the metaverse, NFTs and eSports.

Emerging Media Ventures is keen to explore any opportunities to grow its portfolio as it seeks to deepen its presence in sports and media..

OUR INVESTMENT CRITERIA

Emerging Media Ventures focuses on three key investment criteria:

  1. We are venture builders. We invest in and partner with businesses at inception to help accelerate their growth.

  2. We are control investors. We seek to acquire >50% of a business to allow us to fully impart our expertise.

  3. We invest in highly correlated assets. Our assets show a demonstrable ability to win in cricket, South Asia and the digital economy.
